Presenter

My passion for broadcasting began in secondary school with a "Morning Broadcast" initiative. By 2004, I was reporting for 88.9 Brilla FM and LTV, covering Private Secondary Schools Football Games. At university, I presented on Lion FM, UNN, and after graduating in 2010, I launched popular shows like Musimag and Blaze Blast on Blaze FM. In 2014, I produced the Star Football Show, which aired on multiple eastern Nigerian stations, while also hosting 042 Express on Sunrise FM and ETV, featuring guests like Don Moen. I co-produced Believe It Or Not Naija on Urban FM, a top-ranking regional show. In 2018, I joined Cool FM Lagos, hosting Weekend Chillout Zone. By 2020, I launched Africa Tech Radio and produced the What The Tech Africa podcast. In 2022, I presented entertainment news on News Central TV. Most recently, in 2024, I created Inside Afrobeats with CBC Canada, a show highlighting the history and global impact of Afrobeats music, celebrating African culture on a global stage.

Compère

As someone who loves to engage with people, I’ve been fortunate enough to host some amazing events. Whether it’s a concert or a corporate event, I thrive on bringing my energy to the stage. I’ve had the honor of hosting Blaze Blast, GLO Campus Storm, and even launching my own Karaoke Nite at Lavee Rooftop Lounge in Lagos in August 2021. Today, I continue hosting Karaoke Nite monthly at The Black Sheep in St. John’s, Newfoundland, where the energy is always on point!

Actor

Acting entered my life in 2016, when I took on the role of Makua in Professor Johnbull, a popular GLO TV series. I was the character who never graduated, and I also voiced the promotional materials for the show. Since then, I’ve had the chance to appear in a number of Nollywood films like Slave Dancer, High Tension, and Going Bananas. When I moved to Canada in 2023, I got the opportunity to make my mark on the Canadian TV scene, appearing in Hudson & Rex (Season 7). It’s been an amazing experience to bridge two worlds with my acting career!

DJ

Music has always been a major part of my life. Growing up, I was inspired by legendary DJs in Lagos like DJ Bombastic, DJ FX2, and Jimmy Jatt. By the time I got to university, I was already recording mixes and selling them to party hosts. Fast forward to now, I host The Nite Shift – my own regular DJ sessions, both online and at live events. You can catch me spinning live on ### FM in St. John’s, Newfoundland, and at various venues around the city. My aim? To bring the vibes, create unforgettable moments, and keep the party going!

Other Ventures

I like to say I’m a jack of all trades – from audio production, modeling, and dancing, to event planning and singing. I’ve always loved staying creative and pushing my limits, which is why I’ve also dabbled in producing and planning events. Besides the entertainment world, I’m a certified healthcare professional, Scrum Master, Product Owner, and Business Analyst. I enjoy the balance of working on data analysis and project management, and I’m always excited to bring a strategic edge to anything I do.

About Me

Hey, I’m Josiah Jachimike (JJ) Okonkwo, fondly known as “The Jocular One” (DeJocular). Born in Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria, I’m the youngest of six siblings, all of whom are now married. My family and faith have always played a huge role in shaping who I am today.

I relocated to Lagos in 1996, where I completed high school and began to explore my love for entertainment. Fast forward to 2010, I got my first degree in Botany from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. But it was always clear to me that media and entertainment were my true calling.

In 2023, I moved to Canada to broaden my horizons and continue growing my career. From broadcasting to DJing, acting, and hosting events, I’ve been lucky enough to share my energy and creativity with audiences around the world.
